Hi Everyone,
I would like to welcome you all to the University of Ulster whether you are a new or returning student. I would like to congratulate you all on getting this far and I encourage each and every one of you to keep up the hard work and make the best of your time at University.


Some of you may recognise me as Vice President of the Students’ Union on the Jordanstown Campus but this year I am back as Overall President representing all campuses. The Students' Union can offer you some great opportunities throughout your time here at the University of Ulster so I would like to invite you all to come along to the Fresher’s Fayre on your campus and find out exactly how you can get involved. As well as getting lots of freebies at the Fresher’s Fayre you can also find out how to join our wide range of clubs and societies and find out a little bit more info about them. This is also a great time to came and meet your Students' Union Officer based at your campus.


If sports clubs and societies don’t tickle you fancy there are many other ways of getting involved in your Students’ Union, why not become a class rep and be the voice for your class and any issues you may encounter. We also offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities which will strengthen you CV and offer you an even greater sense of achievement throughout you time at University.

 

 The Overall President's Responsibilities include:

 

  • Be the chief executive officer of the Union and have Executive powers between meetings of the Union's decision-making bodies.
  • Allocate briefs of responsibility to the Executive committee.
  • Be responsible for the administration, finances, premises and staffing.
  • Be chairperson of the Executive Committee and General Council.
  • Co-ordinates, manages and develop all union services.
  • Be the principal Spokesperson of the Union.
  • Co-ordinate all overall Union campaigns.


The Overall President's Job Description as in accordance with the UUSU Constitition, section 5.3:

 
    The President shall:
 
(a)     Be the Chief Executive Officer of the Union and have Executive power between meetings of the Union's decision-making bodies, to which he or she will be answerable for all decisions taken.
 
(b)     Allocate specific briefs of responsibility to the Overall Executive Committee members at the beginning of their term of office and as the need arises.
 
(c)     Be responsible for the administration, finances, premises and staffing of the Union.
 
(d)     Be the Chairperson of the Executive Committee and General Council.
 
(e)     Be responsible for the co-ordination, management and development of all Union services.
 
(f)     Be principal spokesperson of the Union.
 
(g)     Be responsible for the co-ordination of all Union overall campaigns.
