► Study Skills and Exam Techniques

It’s never easy to strike the balance between a getting your degree, and taking part in the social aspect that goes with it, here’s some tips to help you along the way;

Get to know your lecturers

They’re the people that will help you when you need it most. Make sure you let them know of any difficulties or personal problems that you might be experiencing, believe it or not they’re on your side. Their job is to help you do well.

Stay awake in your lectures

 Lectures and seminars are the best way to get the information you will need when I comes to exam time, PAY ATTENTION, it’ll be a lot harder to try and make sense of someone elses notes when it comes down to it.

Lecture notes should be as intelligible as possible. Listen first and write second. Don't lose half of the lecture while scribbling furiously. The main features of good notes are the use of headings, subheadings, abbreviations, underlining, highlighting, good general layout and relevant jargon and definition. Make them your own so it’ll be easy to get them into your head again.

Don’t miss deadlines

Find out what you have to do and when it must be submitted, then do it. Don't leave projects, dissertations and assignments until the last minute. Never miss submission dates without first getting an extension from your lecturer. Don't rely on them always agreeing to an extension, missing deadlines means missing out on marks.

Don’t burn the candle at both ends

 You may feel like you have lots of spare time on your hands at the start but attending lectures, tutorials, and part time work, sport and then the odd night out all add up, then when it comes to exam time you have coursework, extra reading and then revision. Try and strike an even balance.
