What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of taking or copying someone else’s work, including other student’s, and presenting it as if it were your own. Typical plagiarists use ideas, texts, theories, data, created artistic artifacts or other material without acknowledgement so that the person considering this work is given the impression that what they have before them is the student’s own original work when it is not.
Examples of plagiarism are:
• Copying and submitting the work of a fellow student.
• Buying and submitting an assignment from the Internet.
• Creating a piece of work by cutting and pasting various sections of text and/or images found on the Internet into a document without referencing the sources.

What happens if I find myself faced with Plagiarism?
Where a member of staff suspects that your work has been plagiarized, you may be asked to attend an interview regarding your piece of work. A record of this meeting will be kept and you may also be required to undertake an oral examination on the content of your work. If plagiarism if found to have occurred you will be penalized in accordance with the Framework of Penalties for Plagiarism Offences.
Depending on the offence of Plagiarism and the level to which the discipline progresses, a student may or may not be able to seek the support of the Students’ Union for representation during a Fitness for Practice hearing or where invited.
