Disciplinary Procedures


What can be classified as a breach of discipline?


A breach of discipline by a student can be defined as any of the following;
- Failure to comply with any statute, Ordinance, Regulation or Rule prescribed for the conduct and discipline of students
- Conduct which does or is liable to bring discredit upon the University
- Riotous or disorderly conduct
- Misuse of University Equipment
- Offences in connection with exams or other forms of assessment
- Falsification or misuse of University records
- False pretenses or impersonation of others
- Theft or fraud
- Offences against the criminal law
- Infringing any University Policies

Where can I seek advice or support during this period?


Undoubtedly facing disciplinary action from the University can prove a stressful and frightening time for many students who find themselves in this position. It is possible to contact your Students’ Union for representation if invited to an appeal hearing where it states permission to bring along a representative.

Who can I expect to face on a typical Disciplinary Appeals Panel?


A disciplinary appeals panel can typically consist of;
-Five members of Council, one of whom shall be a student , appointed by the Council
-All elected staff members of Senate
-One student, nominated by Students’ Union
