Believe it or not there are loads of reasons why you should get involved as a Class Rep!
You can be the representative of your course colleagues ensuring that their voice is heard. You will have the opportunity to report the problems and thoughts of your fellow students straight to the Academic staff responsible for your programme. The staff at the university really do listen do students – you could be responsible for making positive changes that will benefit not only your year, but future students. You will meet new people and make new friends through your interaction with your course colleagues, other Class Reps and the Students’ Union.
You will develop and hone those essential transferable skills, such as communication, problem solving, negotiation, leadership. Do not slight these skills because in the big bad world of employment these count for a lot. The fact that you can demonstrate these skills, through you role as a Class Rep, will have you standing head and shoulders above the rest of the job seeking masses. It looks pretty damn hot on your PDP and CV!
In a nutshell there are heaps of benefits to being a course rep including:
It is up to your class mates to elect or nominate the people who will represent your class.
The most common procedure for becoming a Class Representative is for you to nominate yourself within your class. Your Course Director will normally ask people, either in class or via email, to put themselves forward. If there are more volunteers than positions, then your Course Director will run an election - which just means you have to tell the class why you think you are the best person for the job.
Once you have done this and you have been nominated, you then need to let us in the Students' Union know. You do this by filling in the form below. It takes us about a week to process these and get you into the Blackboard Learn Support Area - it will be under your courses and is called 'uusu_001'
