Some students who need help may not, for some reason, be eligible to avail of the Support Fund.
Such students should seek help anyhow as it my be possible to help them from one of the other funds operated by the University and the Students’ Union.
If you need help ….. always ask !
This fund comes from three endowments formerly held by the Magee University College, the Hanna Endowment and Bequest, The University Fund and the Mrs S E Anderson Bequest and is particularly intended for needy students who were born within the nine counties comprising the province of Ulster.
Applicants must be currently registered at the University of Ulster and in good academic standing. A confidential statement is sought from an academic referee, nominated by the applicant, preferably the students advisor of study.
Applicants are required to attend an interview from the Student Funding Advisor and decisions are subsequently made by the Support Funds Award Committee.
Maura Lisa O’Neill worked in The University of Ulster Students’ Union until her untimely death in 2002. She was the Student Financial Advisor and she worked tirelessly to help all students in difficulty. Nothing was too much trouble for her and her cheerful positive attitude made her immensely popular with her colleagues and with those who sought her help or advice. Maura Lisa is still very much missed by those who knew her and this fund seeks, in a small way, to carry on her work of trying to help those students most in need.
To apply for help from this fund you should contact the Students' Union's Student Financial Advisor - financialadvisor@uusu.org
It will be necessary to meet with The Student Financial Advisor to discuss your situation and you should bring with you details of your income and expenditure and any other documentation that you consider relevant to your request for assistance.
