In a nail-biting final, Environmental Sciences student Easkey fought back to defeat reigning champion Nicole Morgan in the final event of the tour at the Gul Newquay Open at Fistral Beach, Newquay, last weekend.
The event was the decider in this year's overall BPSA Tour Champion after the spoils of the earlier rounds were shared between three Irish surfers.
UU Design and Communications student Shauna Ward took the first event on the calendar, followed by two wins for Bundoran surfer Nicole Morgan and Easkey notched up a victory at the Welsh Open last month, in this her first year competing in the tour.
Easkey, the current Irish Women's Champion, clinched victory at the Gul Newquay Open with Shauna finishing in second place. The win saw Easkey rocket to top spot in the rankings and take the BPSA title.
Going into the final though, Easkey put the thought of the title out of her mind and concentrated on the race at hand.
"I'm ecstatic about the win. It was very close coming into the last event between me and Nicole and after I won the Welsh Open it crossed my mind that I could win the whole thing. But in the last event I just put all that out of my mind and tried to be as chilled out as possible so that I wouldn't be stressed and I would do the best I could," Easkey said.
Shauna Ward finished third overall in the BPSA tour, making it a successful event for UU with two of the top three women's surfers in the BPSA students at the University.
