21st May 2007 2:05 pm

The University of Ulster's Step-Up programme is currently seeking students to participate in its 2007/2008 mentoring programme. If you are entering final year of your degree or are returning for a postgraduate course in September then you are eligible to apply.

What is the Step-Up programme?

Step-Up is an innovative programme, which provides students from socio-economically disadvantaged areas the opportunity to gain entry to higher education.

What does a mentor do?

The role of a mentor within the programme is to provide both academic and pastoral support and advice to Step-Up graduates who have progressed to higher education and are in their first year of studies at the UU. Mentors will have completed or be about to complete the same course as the student/students they are mentoring.

What do I get in return?

There are a number of benefits to be gained from becoming a mentor. We offer payment of £300 and a certificate of achievement. Mentoring also provides a person with experience and skills that greatly add to their curriculum vitae and improve their job prospects.

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply to be a mentor please email your course details, CV and a short supporting statement (maximum 500 words) on why you would like to participate to stepup@ulster.ac.uk.
