The club kept up their unbeaten run this season with a 3-1 win in the league final against University College Dublin.

This accolade adds to the success in the Irish intervarsity in Kildare earlier this year, when the club won the all-Ireland competition to pick up the Team Champions trophy, winning by and incredible 25 shots.

Keith Thompson, team manager and Sports Development Officer, said: “The team as worked tirelessly all year to grind out these results and has deserved every accolade. To have gone an entire season unbeaten is something special and the talent in the squad shows the type of top golfers that the University of Ulster is attracting.

“We have shown the quality that Ulster has, beating teams like QUB and Trinity College Dublin to get to the final stages. Then to go on and beat University College Cork in the semis and UCD in the final shows that we are on are a force to be reckoned with in Irish golfing.”

On the way to winning the league, Ulster’s cross-campus team of golfers, captained by Jack Owens from Bangor, won the Northern section with six wins and no losses before going on to beat the best universities of the Southern section in the finals.

Dr Nigel Dobson, Co-Director of the Ulster Sports Academy, said: “Golf at Ulster has become one of our biggest growing sports over the last number of years and we recognised this by introducing golf bursaries for students who excel in the sport.

Next up for Ulster’s golfers are the British Universities and Colleges Sport’s Individual Championships in Nottingham on April 20– 23.
