Freedom Live: Here’s The Script

22nd April 2009 12:27 pm

Freedom Live will see one of Ireland’s hottest acts, The Script, perform an exclusivewinners-only gig at Spring & Airbrake in Belfast on Monday 11th May and Northern Bank and 97.4 Cool FM are inviting unsigned bands and solo artists from across Northern Ireland to compete for the chance to open the show for the headliners.

Freedom Live will be a rare opportunity for fans in Northern Ireland to experience the band performing their biggest hits live in a truly intimate setting and for unsigned acts across Northern Ireland the show could be a crucial step to following in the headliner’s footsteps.

Rosamond Bennett of Northern Bank says:” We are very excited to announce the first in a series of Freedom Live gigs which will bring the best live music acts to Northern Ireland to play exclusive live shows to a limited number of competition winners and Freedom account holders. We are especially pleased to be able to support local music talent and create this unique opportunity for the many gifted unsigned local acts in Northern Ireland.”

Unsigned talent across Northern Ireland is being invited to log on to www.freedomlive.co.uk now to register for the chance to open the show. A panel of industry experts will shortlist five of the best unsigned acts to go forward to an online vote, with the eventual winner being determined by the Northern Irish public to be The Script’s support act on the night.

Freedom Live takes its name from Northern Bank’s Freedom Current Account – the account for 18-27 year old students, graduates and those just starting out on the career ladder.

The Script are an international phenomenon. The three-piece - Danny, Mark and Glen- drew on influences from their roots growing up in Dublin to produce their own unique brand of Celtic Soul. Blending hip-hop lyrical flow and gritty contemporary narratives with anthemic pop melodies they’ve created a trademark sound which captures the passion of its Irish routes while grabbing the hearts of a global audience.

Within eight months of releasing their first single ‘We Cry’, they were awarded the accolade of Best Selling Irish Act of 2008 at the World Music Awards. Their self-titled debut album has achieved multi-platinum status, spending two weeks at the UK No.1 spot and storming charts around Europe and the World.

Henry Owens, Programme Director of 97.4 Cool FM says:
“The Script are one of the hottest new acts around and they’ve had an incredible year with their debut album hitting the Number 1 spot not once but twice! It’s fantastic to welcome them to Belfast for Freedom Live” and we’d encourage our listeners to do what you can to get their hands on a ticket...there won’t be many more opportunities in the future to see this band at such close quarters!”
