Suas Educational Development – Volunteer in India or Kenya next summer

7th December 2007 9:39 am

The Suas Volunteer Programme provides an opportunity to volunteer in a community-based school or educational project in India or Kenya, for ten weeks, while learning about different cultures. It offers the possibility to develop personal and professional skills, to work in a team, and to learn about the challenges and opportunities of Development in our interconnected world.

What does the programme involve? The programme begins once you have accepted your place and is split into 3 main phases:

1) Training and Preparation: which includes three action packed preparation weekends and full support while you fundraise the participation fee.
2) Overseas Work Placement: a 10 week placement working for one of the Partner Schools with children aged between 4 and 17.
Volunteers engage in a broad range of projects, both curricular and extra-curricular. There is also an opportunity to learn about Development more widely through NGO visits and Global Perspectives week.
3) Return and Closeout: comprising of a return weekend which gives an opportunity to reflect on the experiences of the summer, celebrate the programme achievements and look forwards to ask what’s next?
