Hi Everyone,
I’m Jemma Dolan and within your union I hold the position of VP Campaigns and Communications. This is an overall position representing all four campuses and therefore providing me with the opportunity of meeting students from all over – a chance I am really looking forward to!
First off I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new students to the University of Ulster and in particular to the Students’ Union. As the saying goes “school days are the best days of your life” and university is no different – and I, along with my fellow sabbaticals, are here to ensure this is the case for your time at UU. I would also like to welcome back our returning students - congratulations on passing your exams and for those returning from placement - I hope you had a great year and are ready for final year.
I will strive to use my great passion for making the most of the student experience and organisation skills to fulfil this role. Utilizing my media degree I will keep you guys informed about the work and activities of your Students’ Union, University and the local Community through numerous forms of media. I will act as the first point of contact for all campaign enquires at the Students’ Union, so if any of you have any ideas of campaigns that you would like to see run on your campus please do not hesitate getting in contact with me.
You will get many hints and tips through-out this year some you will find useful, some you will not but let me give you a tip that you will find useful – get involved! Your union is run by students, for students and it really does enhance your University experience. There is always something going on in the Students’ Union, be it campaigns, protests or referendums, not to mention our numerous societies and Sports Union. Therefore there is always something to do – be it standing as a class rep or joining the bar committee, there is something for everyone! It is a great way to meet new people, not to mention making great CV fodder.
To stay in touch with your Students’ Union and find out what it can do for you, take a look at our Ufouria magazine, “Like” our University of Ulster Students Union Facebook page (University of Ulster Students Union), follow us on Twitter (@UlsterSU) and new this year – download the UUSU smartphone App!
I am excited at the prospect of working with you guys over the course of the year & if you see me campus, come and chat!
