Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Students’ Union and why are student leaders important?
Every student at UU automatically becomes a member of the Students’ Union when they start university, which means we have more than 27,000 members.
The Students’ Union is led by students, for students. The President, Vice Presidents, School and Department Reps represent your academic and student experience.
They do this through:
• shaping Students’ Union policy;
• running campaigns on campus, locally and nationally;
• attending meetings at various levels of the University to ensure your views are heard.
Our elected Student Leaders work with a team of staff to enrich your university experience by giving you as many opportunities as possible while at Ulster University.
How do I know when things are happening?
The full UUSU Leadership Elections timeline outlines key dates such as nomination periods, required briefings, and when campaigning begins.
This timeline can be found Jump to Timeline

We recommend focusing on no more than five strong priority areas.
As part of your campaign materials, you must provide:
• Your experiences, skills and motivations
• The key campaigns or outcomes you would prioritise
Manifesto support is provided during Candidate Information Sessions. If you can’t attend, contact elections@ulster.ac.uk with questions.
