Emma DeSouza is a journalist, award-winning campaigner and peace activist who changed UK law in a landmark human rights case relating to the Good Friday Agreement. She will be delivering a talk called "Unfinished Business: From Good Friday to a New Ireland, A Civil Society Agenda", exploring issues such as Irish reunification and the politics of what that might look like.  She is the Founder and Co-facilitator of deliberative democracy platform The Civic Initiative, Director of the Northern Ireland Emerging Leaders Program at the National Committee on American Foreign Policy in New York, and a transatlantic adviser on peace processes and civic innovation.

Emma writes for several publications including The Guardian, the Irish Times, Irish Examiner, Belfast Telegraph, Byline Times, Europe's and Journal.ie. In 2023 she hosted 'Lost in Implementation', a six part podcast series examining the unfinished work of the Good Friday Agreement.

The Politics Society is proud to welcome Emma to Ulster University as our guest speaker for this event. If you have an interest in the politics of Irish unity and the Northern Ireland constitutional question, this is the event for you!
