Dance

Ulster University Dance is a self-funded team of 3 years and were constituted as a sports club in 2019.

We are a committed competitive team of 16 members and compete in three major dance competitions; British Intervarsity in Manchester, NICMAC and the Ulster’s. We will compete in the Irish Dance Intervarsity next year.

The team train twice a week, on Monday 7.30 to 9.30pm and Wednesday 2.00-4.00pm in the Studio, Sports Centre. We also run fun classes every Tuesday 5.00-7.00pm in the Diamond at £3.00 per class. Each week we teach a different style of dance, such as modern/ contemporary, hip hop, lyrical etc.

We organise regular fundraising activities to help with competition costs and well as fundraising for charity; we've had bake sales, hampers and glow in the dark dance fitness and Strictly Come Dancing events.

Testimonial from club member Kirsty - "My year on the university dance team has been the most amazing experience, it has helped me to have the best first year possible. From NICMAC to the intervarsity weekend competition in Manchester as well as the training sessions I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year. Not forgetting meeting the most amazing people that have definitely made each week fun and exciting as well as making friendships that will definitely last!!!! What an amazing, great year to have been a part of the university dance team!!"

Testimonial from club member Chloe - "I joined the dance team in September 2019. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do the competitions due to work commitments, but I am super excited to be participating this year! I have always loved to dance and self-taught myself throughout the years. Then I joined a fantastic studio (Dees’s Barbelles) 3 years ago and my teacher taught me pole dancing/fitness and burlesque. By doing these, it made me more confident and eager to learn more styles, so whenever I seen there was an Ulster University Dance Team, I couldn’t resist but join. The team are so lovely and talented plus they all have different styles which is amazing. I had so much fun attending the organised events like Zumba and the fun dance classes. I took one of fun dance classes and taught burlesque. I’m super excited to be a part of the committee this year and to get running events with the rest of the committee for everyone to enjoy!"
