Your Rights at a Glance

  • Private landlords are required to provide you with a rent book and their details. In the event there is a letting agent they must disclose the landlord’s full name and home or business address.
  • Unless in the case of an emergency your landlord cannot enter the property without advance agreement with the tenant. It is not simply enough to give notice, they need you to confirm you are content for them to enter.
  • Your tenancy can only be ended if you have breached your contract or you have been sent the appropriate notice to quit for example when your one-year lease is up. This is usually 28 days if you have lived there less than 5 years. (this would be contained within the tenancy agreement or contract)
