Student Excellence Awards 2022

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it’s not overstating it to say that we were thrilled to see the return of our Student Excellence Awards in person last week!

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it’s not overstating it to say that we were thrilled to see the return of our Student Excellence Awards in person last week!

After such a long time spent online we wanted to offer students the chance to enjoy their students’ union space so we brought the awards home, and hosted the Student Excellent Awards 2022 on Coleraine campus.

After drinks and canapés and fabulous music from Clodagh May and Conan Mullan, we enjoyed the wit of Irish stand up comedian Darren Matthew in the impressive space that is the Riverside Theatre.

Owen, our UUSU President and Robert, VP Belfast were our suave hosts for the night presenting awards to our category winners and raising the roof with applause for our runners up.

You can check out all the shortlisted nominees here. Massive well done to everyone! We hope the environmentally friendly prizes were enjoyed – a few of the winners are now proud guardians of a society elephant courtesy of WWF. We hope you’ll name your new mascot and make some introductions on socials!

The afterparty in Bann View Social was a vibe and the dance floor was full thanks to Young Ike’s selection of tunes! We even enjoyed a special guest appearance from none other than David Attenborough (a rather fetching cardboard cut-out version) who gave his nod of approval to the efforts we made to ensure the event was sustainable and in support of UUSU Green Week. We are proud that in lieu of party favours, 120 trees have been planted on behalf of UUSU via ecologi.com. You can view our trees here! I’m sure Sir David was spotted eyeing up the pizza before someone (who has not yet been identified) took him home. We hope he is being well looked after!

A final wee word of thanks to Novel Student who donated our freebie bags, Truva for the delicious food and to Joseph Gerard Photography for capturing the memories.

We hope everyone in attendance had a ball! If you weren’t there, you missed out, but we hope to do it all again in 2023 in our new social space on Belfast campus.

To all our societies and volunteers – keep up the good work. It means so much to everyone at Ulster.
