Buddy Scheme

The UUSU Buddy Scheme helps new students settle into university life by connecting them with a student buddy who can offer support, answer questions, and help them settle into university life.

Buddy Scheme FAQs

When a student reaches out to UUSU looking for support, we’ll connect them with a buddy. We’ll try to match students with similar interests, courses of study and living arrangements so you have plenty in common with each other. Once matched, the aim is that you’ll support them to feel like they belong at UU.

You can spend as little as an hour or two a week with each other. There are no hard and fast rules – your buddy relationship should work for everyone involved.

Buddies often spend time together or chatting in the first weeks of the semester. Once the student has settled in, they might not need any further support or you might have developed a genuine friendship.

The buddy scheme is really informal – buddies can choose to spend time together however they wish! You can meet up for a campus walkabout, go to UUSU events together, try out a sporting activity, grab a coffee or just hang out either in person or online. It’s completely your choice! New students will have lots of questions about uni life so your relationship might just be a series of questions and answers!

Buddy volunteers are returning students with at least one year of campus experience at Ulster. You’ll receive guidance from UUSU and we’ll be here if there are any queries or situations which you need help with. To register your interest complete the form at the link below.
